1RISK Participates In Summer Incident Exercise

SEVEN SPRINGS MOUNTAIN RESORT, PA – 1RISK joined industry members for the NSAA Downhill Bike Park Summit that took place June 10-12, 2019. The three-day annual conference, hosted by Seven Springs Mountain Resort, brought together members from across the world.

The conference, which is held at a different location each year, focuses on supporting the growing industry with sessions on improving safety and risk management, sales and marketing tips, tools for building and maintaining parks, and so much more.

Charles Mickley and Bill Brouse of 1RISK joined the panel of experts for the “Summer Investigation” sessions. Led by Jesse Whitcomb, a Claims and Loss Control Specialist at MountainGuard, the session was broken out into two components; an outdoor on the hill, hands-on session, and an indoor discussion panel session.

The first segment began by splitting the audience out into six groups and heading outdoors for on-scene incident investigation training. Each group was introduced to a staged incident with mock witnesses and given a specified time to create a comprehensive witness interview. Additionally, groups reviewed proper photo taking techniques and how to create appropriate accident scene diagrams.

Members then headed indoors to discuss policies and procedures for properly handling incidents and were shown a demonstration by the 1RISK team on how the effectiveness of digital incident tracking systems could be utilized to document all data points of an incident and then generate the appropriate report outputs including incident report, photo logs, witness interviews, rental forms, digital waivers, pre-operational checklist & inspection logs, to create a comprehensive investigation report.

The session also allowed the audience and panel members to discuss the advantages of moving from paper reports to digital reports as well as share insights on their experiences and what has worked best for them. Members of the legal and insurance industries were also in attendance and were able to shed some light on how a complete report can make a difference.

“This turned out to be a very interactive session with a lot of great input and insight from many staff levels including first-response team members, resort managers, park managers, insurance specialists and legal specialists. The dialogue was invaluable and served as a good reminder of why we’ve worked so hard to provide the most useful product we can; to help first-responders meet certain requirements during what has to be a very difficult moment,” says Charles Mickley of 1RISK.
