1RISK is a proud supporter of the Women of the Mountain program at Mt Hood Meadows. In 2022, the resort launched She Grooms, a program that provides hands-on training and mentorship opportunities to women interested in pursuing careers in snow grooming.
The program was created by Allison Marriner, Slope Groomer Manager at Mt. Hood Meadows. Marriner is a long-time snowcat operator and champion for women in the ski industry. She saw a need for more female representation in the grooming field, and She Grooms was her way of addressing that need.
The program is open to women of all ages and skill levels. Participants learn about the basics of snow grooming, including how to operate a snowcat, clear a trail, and build snow features. They also have the opportunity to network with other women in the industry and learn from experienced groomers.
Since its launch, She Grooms has helped dozens of women get their start in snow grooming. Many of the program’s graduates have gone on to successful careers in the industry.
“She Grooms is making a real difference in the lives of women in the snowsports industry,” said Marriner. “It’s giving them the opportunity to learn new skills, build their confidence, and pursue their dreams.”
